The Department of Music started its journey in 2012 under the affiliation of Burdwan University. The Department offered B.A. (General) degree in Music at the undergraduate level at that time.
The Department presently offers B.A. Pass (programme) course (under CBCS) at the undergraduate level. Choice – Based Credit System (CBCS) and Semester-based curriculum have been introduced from the session 2017 – 2018. The department has been following the curriculum and syllabus as prescribed by the affiliating university (Bankura University) since 2017.
In each semester the stipulated syllabus is completed, and the topics are taught as per the credits allocated to each topic. Currently there is one SACT faculty, two Visiting Faculties and one Accompanist in the department.

The Music Department aims to provide high-quality music education, fostering creativity, and contributing to cultural enrichment. The department guides the students in the right direction so that they can pursue a career in music in future.
Vision
The department caters the diverse need of students. The students are encouraged to actively participate in various cultural programmes organized in the institution. The department from its very beginning has been trying very hard to provide all kind of facilities and supports to its students and assess the academic progress of the students at regular intervals. Faculty members give full support for the improvement of the academic performance of the students by taking remedial classes and tutorial classes.
The future agenda of the department include introduction of Honours course in Music, organizing State and National Level Seminars sponsored by UGC in the department, conducting more guest lectures inviting experts from different branches of Music, giving students experience of small research projects and papers, introduce more ICT enabled teaching methods like smart classroom and add more musical instruments like percussion instruments, string instruments etc so that the students get benefited.The department seeks to be a regional centre for music excellence, producing skilled musicians, and promoting artistic innovation.
