The Department of Sanskrit started its journey with the very inception of the college in 1979 with general course and Honours course has been introduced under Burdwan University. since 2004 This department has been brought under the affiliation of Bankura University since 2017. At present, the department has an intake capacity of 80 students in Honours course. In this session (2021-22) 39 students are studying in semester- I, 40 in semester III and 31 in semester- V. The department encourages liberal education of students by facilitating understanding of language and literature through critical reading, humane reflection and effective communication, thereby motivating students to participate in society building as informed, empathetic and responsible citizens. The department boasts of six young dynamic faculty members. Three full-time Assistant Professors and three SACT, inspiring students to explore interdisciplinary areas concomitant to literature and culture studies. The department facilitate soft skills training and grooming of personality of students for future professional spaces. Routine classes, online classes, use of multimedia in teaching, excursion, creative exploration through cultural events, wall magazine and projects; invited lectures, feedback system, career counselling all contribute in maintaining the liberal and utilitarian ambience of the department, appreciating and applying literature in life.
