Our Department
The Department of Economics started its journey in 1979 under the affiliation of Burdwan University. The Department offered B.A. (General) degree in Economics at the undergraduate level at that time.
The Department started offering B.Sc. Pass (programme) course (under CBCS) following semester-based curriculum from the session 2017-2018. The department has been following the curriculum and syllabus as prescribed by the affiliating university (Bankura University) since 2017. Presently the department follows the Choice based credit system (CBCS) under NEP that provides an opportunity for the students to choose courses from the prescribed courses comprising Economics Major, Economics Minor and Economics Multidisciplinary courses.
In each semester the stipulated syllabus is completed, and the topics are taught as per the credits allocated to each topic.Currently there is one full time faculty in the department.

Economics develops the power of rational and critical thinking, problem solving ability and computational skills that are needed in every aspect of life. Department of Economics recognizes this and strives hard to empower students to excel in Economics through creation, acquisition and dissemination of knowledge in life.
The department caters the diverse need of students. The students are encouraged to actively participate in the learning process in the classroom . Students are encouraged to use the e-resource (e-lecture notes, videos, e-books). The department from its very beginning is trying very hard to provide all kind of facilities and supports to its students and paying special attention towards regular assessment of their academic progress. Faculty members give full support for the improvement of the academic performance of the students by taking extra lectures or through personal counselling/interactions.
The future plan of the development centres around holistic development of students through curricular as well as various student-oriented activities that will enrich the students. The future agenda of the department include organizing State and National Level Seminars sponsored by UGC in the department, conducting more guest lectures inviting experts from different branches of Economics, giving students experience of small research projects and papers, introduce more ICT enabled teaching methods like smart classroom.
